Rhythm on the River presents The Blind Boys Of Alabama
The Blind Boys of Alabama (http://www.blindboys.com/) have the rare distinction of being recognized around the world as both living legends and modern-day innovators. They are not just gospel singers borrowing from old traditions –the group helped to define those traditions in the 20th century and to almost single-handedly create a new gospel sound for the 21st. Since the original members first sang together as kids at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Deaf and Blind in the late 1930s, the band has persevered to become one of the most recognized and decorated gospel groups in the world. Celebrated by The National Endowment for the Arts and the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences with Lifetime Achievement Awards, inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and winners of five Grammy® Awards, they have attained the highest levels of achievement in a career that spans over seven decades and shows no signs of diminishing.
Live Music starts with MojoFlo at 7:30 p.m.
MojoFlo (http://www.mojoflomusic.com/) delivers a spell-binding performance that, while remaining rooted in funk, rock, and jazz, manages to transcend traditional musical boundaries. Blazing vocals, screaming horns, and a hard hitting rhythm section are the hallmarks of the group’s sound. Named “Best Band” (2016) by both Columbus Monthly and (614) Magazine for their dynamic live shows featuring vivacious vocalist Amber Knicole. Amber has been likened to everyone from Chaka Khan to a young Sharon Jones and described as Beyonce’s wild step sister, but one thing is for certain: She is just as well known for her jazzy, gospel-influenced vocal prowess as she is for her captivating stage presence.
