The Queen of Bluegrass in Bicentennial Park

Posted on July 9, 2012

Columbus Recreation and Parks Department is excited to welcome Rhonda Vincent, the “new Queen of Bluegrass,” to Bicentennial Park this Friday at 8:00 p.m. for a free performance as part of the Rhythm on the River series.

From a young age, as part of the fifth generation of musicians in her family, Vincent has succeeded and accomplished great things. Making her musical debut at the age of five, she quickly began mastering the mandolin, guitar, fiddle, and of course, crafting her vocal style. Vincent has lent her voice to recording artists such as Dolly Parton, Alan Jackson, Joe Diffie and more.
Vincent blends modern styles with the haunting classic Monroe-styled bluegrass to create a unique and inclusive sound. Performing this Friday with her band the Rage—which includes a fiddle, bass, guitar and banjo—, the band adds boldness and creativity to Vincent’s multi-ranged and fast-paced vocals. With clever lyrics, country-style twang and intricate bluegrass cross picking, Rhonda Vincent and the Rage are sure to provide an energetic and exciting live show.

Vincent and her band have won over 70 awards during the span of their career, including “Entertainer of the Year” from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) and seven consecutive IBMA “Female Vocalist of the Year” awards. Expect performances of Vincent’s chart-topping tracks such as “You Can’t Take It with You When You Go,” “Tonight My Baby’s Coming Home” and more from her latest full-lengths Taken and Sunday Mornin’ Singin’ at this Friday’s performance.

Rhythm on the River features an eclectic series of touring artists, local musicians and arts organizations. Produced by the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, the 2012 series will present seven free outdoor performances in Bicentennial Park. In addition to Rhythm on the River, Bicentennial Park is also home to Movies on the Mile and FountainSide presented by Sunny 95 (94.7 FM). All performances and programs are free and open to the public. For more information on Rhythm on the River, please visit https://www.sciotomile.com/events/rhythm-on-the-river/.
