Less than a year after becoming the highest-grossing film in North America’s film history, the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department is pleased to feature Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the final installment of our 2016 Movies on the Mile series. An evening lit by the dark but starry sky on the Scioto Mile sets the mood for a movie experience.
Three decades after the defeat of the Galactic Empire, a new threat arises. The First Order attempts to rule the galaxy and only a ragtag group of heroes can stop them, along with the help of the Resistance. Picking up after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the first film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. The widely anticipated Disney film released in December 2015 received highly positive reviews, with many praising its action sequences and comparing it favorably to the original trilogy. The film which anticipates two sequels has since shattered box office records and received five Academy Award nominations.
Opening the evening is the charming and contagious, JD Eicher combining seasoned songwriting, swoon-worthy vocals and emphatic delivery to establish his own brand of subtle pop. Having shared the stage with respected artists such as the Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, Maroon 5, Rod Stewart, Kelly Clarkson and many others, companies like Virgin America Airlines and Olive Garden have recognized Eicher’s graceful song-craft and feature his music throughout their commercials and advertisements.
The Columbus Recreation and Parks Department’s Strawberry Food Truck will serve up sweet and savory delicacies on August 5 at Rhythm on the River. This week the team from Buster Mac’s food truck will whip up their signature burgers and milkshakes made with Velvet Ice Cream.
