Yumbambé! in partnership with Bike Columbus Twilight Ride

Posted on July 5, 2013

Latin jazz music bringing together jazz harmony and the vibrant rhythms of Afro-Cuban drumming describes a performance by Yumbambé. Eric “the FISH” Paton leads the group, complete with both male and female vocals surrounded by an assorted mix of percussion instruments. This unique and exciting group performs a diverse collection of rhythms including meringue, calypso, bembe, cha cha, samba and bossa nova.

Yumbambé has performed at countless clubs and festivals such as the Columbus Arts Festival, Festival Latino, Jazz & Rib Fest and Comfest. They have also had the honor of performing for the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, the Governor’s Awards for the Arts and the inaugural celebration of Mayor Michael Coleman. The band includes some of Columbus’ most prominent jazz musicians, who have performed with many jazz and Latin greats.

Before the concert, join Mayor Michael Coleman and Columbus Public Health officials for an evening bike ride through downtown Columbus. The Mayor’s Twilight Ride has routes of ten and 25 miles that begin and end downtown. This unique tour takes riders through areas including the Scioto Mile, the Short North, Olde Towne East and the University District.

The Mayor’s Twilight Ride promotes the benefits of active living. All proceeds will fund bikes and helmets for kids in need and support bicycle safety initiatives. All riders return to Bicentennial Park for free entertainment by Yumbambé and a free slice of pizza provided by Donato’s. Do not miss an evening of bike riding, sightseeing and hot Latin jazz music on the riverfront!
