Privacy Policy

Group 3

Effective July 31, 2026

The Scioto Mile website is owned and operated by the City of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department. This notice explains what information this website collects, how that information is used, and the choices available to you. It applies only to sciotomile.com. It does not apply to other City of Columbus websites, which are governed by the City of Columbus privacy policy, or to any third-party website you reach by following a link from this one.

Information collected automatically

You can browse this website without telling us who you are. We do not require you to register or to submit any personal information in order to read pages, view event listings, or download material.

Like nearly all websites, our servers keep activity logs that help us operate and secure the site. These logs may record the internet address your request came from, the date and time of the request, the pages requested, and the browser and operating system used. This information is used in aggregate to understand how the site is used and to diagnose problems. We do not use it to try to identify individual visitors.

Information you choose to give us

Some parts of this website invite you to send us information. If you fill out our contact form, you may provide your name, email address, telephone number, your preferred method of being contacted, and the content of your message. If you leave a comment on a post, WordPress records the name and email address you enter along with your internet address.

We use what you send us to answer your question, to route your inquiry to the right people, and to understand what visitors need from this site. Providing this information is entirely voluntary, and you may contact Columbus Recreation and Parks by telephone or mail instead.

Public records

This is important, and it works differently than it does on a commercial website. The City of Columbus is a public body subject to the Ohio Public Records Act, Ohio Revised Code Section 149.43. Information you submit through this website, including messages sent through the contact form, may be a public record. If it is, Ohio law generally requires the City to release it in response to a public records request, even if you ask us to keep it confidential. Certain narrow categories of information are exempt from release by law.

Please keep this in mind and avoid sending sensitive personal information through this website. If you need to share something sensitive, contact Columbus Recreation and Parks directly to ask how best to do that.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. This site uses a small number of them:

  • Consent preferences. When you respond to the cookie notice, we store your choice so the notice does not reappear on every page.
  • Site notifications. If you dismiss an announcement banner, we store that so it stays dismissed for a period of time.
  • Analytics. See the section below.

You can refuse or delete cookies through your browser settings. Refusing cookies will not prevent you from reading anything on this site, though banners you have already dismissed may reappear.

Analytics

We use Metricool, a third-party analytics service, to understand how many people visit the site and which pages are most useful. Metricool places a script on our pages that collects usage information such as pages viewed, referring website, and general browser and device characteristics. We use this in aggregate to improve the site. Metricool processes this data on our behalf and under its own privacy terms. If you would rather not be measured, you can decline analytics cookies through the cookie notice or use your browser’s tracking protection.

Maps

Pages that display locations use Leaflet with map imagery from OpenStreetMap. When a map loads, your browser requests map images directly from OpenStreetMap’s servers, which means your internet address is visible to them in the same way it would be if you visited their website.

How we share information

We do not sell information collected through this website, and we do not rent or trade it for marketing purposes.

We may share information you submit with other City of Columbus departments or other governmental agencies when doing so is necessary to answer your question or provide the service you asked for. We may share information as required by law, including in response to a valid public records request as described above. Information indicating a threat to people, property, or systems, or a possible violation of law, may be shared with law enforcement.

Links to other websites

This site links to other websites, including Columbus Recreation and Parks, festival and event websites, and social media pages. Once you follow a link off sciotomile.com, you are covered by that site’s privacy practices rather than this notice. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit. A link from this site is not an endorsement of that site’s content, products, or services.

Children

This website is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us using the details below and we will take appropriate steps.

Security

This website is served over an encrypted connection, and we take reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information in our care. No method of transmitting or storing information over the internet is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Accessibility

Columbus Recreation and Parks is committed to making this website usable by everyone, including people who use assistive technology. If you encounter a barrier on this site, please tell us using the contact details below so we can address it.

Changes to this notice

We may update this notice from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date shown at the top of this page. We encourage you to review it periodically.
