Rhythm on the River Presents Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper and The Seldom Scene

Posted on July 5, 2017

Looking to fiddle around with some of the finest bluegrass there is to offer? Don’t miss The Seldom Scene and Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper’s skillful and captivating performances Friday, July 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Bicentennial Park for our next Rhythm on the River performance.

Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper
Michael Cleveland is one of the premier bluegrass fiddlers of his generation, and with ten International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Fiddle Player of the Year awards under his belt, he is the most awarded and celebrated fiddler in the history of the music. Cleveland plays with so much fire, drive and virtuosity that audiences are often left shaking their heads in amazement. Together with his band Flamekeeper (four-time IBMA Instrumental Band of the Year Award winners) Cleveland delivers some of the most powerful, exciting and authentic bluegrass you can find.

The Seldom Scene
What does it take for a bluegrass band to remain popular for more than four decades? For The Seldom Scene, it’s taken not only talented musicians, a signature sound and a solid repertoire, but also a sheer sense of fun. As one of the first bluegrass bands to embrace a non-traditional approach, they stretched the boundaries of what was acceptable by embracing artists such as Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead while mixing it up with Merle Haggard and traditional tunes as well. With a body of work stretching back to 1971, The Seldom Scene has become one of the single greatest contributors to the progression of bluegrass, while setting a new standard and attracting new audiences to the genre. Sometimes irreverent, always entertaining, the Scene’s legend continues growing into the 21st century.
