Posted on July 28, 2012
Columbus Recreation and Parks Department welcomes Transit Arts to Bicentennial Park on Fri., Aug. 3 at 8 p.m. for a free performance as part of the Rhythm on the River series. Food and beverages will be available for purchase beginning at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.
The Transit Arts Performance Group is a dynamic blend of outstanding professional and talented youth artists inspiring and challenging one another to honor their roots while creating fresh new work. Rhythms rise from the drums, turntables and dancing feet, as poets, hip-hop emcees, break-dancers, DJs, musicians, singers and visual artists all flow together to create a breathtaking, interactive and multi-disciplinary performance experience. The group has performed throughout the community at events such as The Columbus Arts Festival, Jazz & Rib Fest, The Ohio State House Summer Performance Series, Upper Arlington Labor Day Arts Festival and more.
Transit Arts, young artists on the move, is a youth development program of Central Community House, based in the seven sites of the Columbus Federation of Settlements and working in partnership with the Greater Columbus Arts Council. Transit Arts is rooted in a rich history of youth and community engagement and enlists young people, ages 12-21, in intensive programs of coaching/mentoring by outstanding professionals from the creative industries.
